ABOUT IPPP

 

The (State of ) Pernambuco Institute for Psychobiophysics Research was founded on the 1st of January of 1973 by Valter da Rosa Borges, it is one of the oldest parapsychology institutions in Brazil. It has been declared of public utility according to Pernambuco state law number 9,714 , on October 3, 1985, and the City of Recife law number 14,840 , on January 14, 1986 .

 

The IPPP offers  parapsychology courses, makes researches on spontaneous cases and laboratories controlled situations, and gratuitously gives orientation and counseling to people undergoing problems of parapsychological nature or to people with  paranormal skills.

 

Its activities and scientific research has no similar in Brazil , due not only to bring into being several  congresses and symposiums  on parapsychology, but also to the publication of specialized books on the paranormal phenomenology by its members.

 

In 1982, the IPPP begun to offer to the public in general,  regular courses in parapsychology. In 1993, it begun to bring into being the State Parapsychological Symposiums, that still take place today, without interruptions.

 

In 1986 held the V Brazilian Congress of Parapsychology and Psychotronics,  from the 3rd to the 5th of  October, the first one of this kind in Pernambuco,  in which  took part  parapsychologists from the states of Pernambuco, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná and Pará.

 

In 1988, the IPPP begun to offer Post graduation Courses in Parapsychology, with the purpose of turning already graduated people into parapsychologists.

 

In 1989, due to the efforts of IPPP members, the Constitution of The State of Pernambuco, promulgated on the 5t of October, on its article 174, determined that the State and its cities, directly or though private entities, give social assistance to gifted people and to paranormal subjects.

 

The Revista Brasileira de Parapsicologia published on first number, in 1992, a tribute to IPPP, relating  the History of the Institute for “being one of  the oldest groups working in this field in this country, which gives them a pioneering character” and “ by its true conquests in heightening parapsychology to its deserved level in this country”.

 

In 1993, The IPPP created the National Parapsychologists Day, on the 29 of July, based on the date of the realization of the I International Parapsychology Congress, in Utrecht , Netherlands, from the 29th of July to the 4th  of August, 1953 , in which it was officially adopted the term Parapsychology to this new science.

 

In 1996, it begun to publish the Brazilian Yearbook of Parapsychology with the purpose to divulging papers of Brazilian parapsychologists and  occasionally from ones from other countries.

 

In 1997, the IPPP held in Recife the I International and Brazilian Congress of Parapsychology, from the 31st of October to the 2nd of November, with the presence of parapsychologists from Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, USA and Russia. Is was the most  daring and well succeeded achievement of its history. Every year the IPPP is visited by college and high school students to get information  about parapsychology to accomplish their school tasks

 

Every month, the IPPP held its Multidisciplinar Seminar, when it is discussed themes related to science,  philosophy, religion, arts and literature.

 

IPPP’s parapsychologists have given  lectures and courses at the Pernambuco Federal University, Alagoas Federal University, Paraíba Federal University, Pernambuco Catholic University, Philosophy College of Recife, Odontology College of Caruaru, Law School of Caruaru, Pernambuco Medicine Academy, Pernambuco Academy of Sciences, Pernambuco Academy of Odontology,  Cultural State Council, Pernambuco Magistracy  School, Astronomy Society of Recife, and several clubs and freemasonry institutions and the Rosa-Cruz Order.

 

Its members belong to several academic areas such as Law, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Medicine, Biology, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics, Pedagogy, Odontology and Administration, some with master and doctorate degrees, and taking part in the teaching and research team.
